I have great credit. I don't want to pay an annual fee, and want the best cash back policy.

For an excellent credit card that offers cash back with little or no annual fee, there are several options to consider. The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is a great option that offers different levels of cash back on different categories of purchases, and the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card offers extremely competitive rewards rates across the board!

Hi There, I am needing to open a new card for a $5,000 home repair. Looking for the longest introductory time period (preferably 6 months before first payment). And would like the highest in cash back rewards (not just travel, can be used for anything). What would you recommend for someone with excellent credit? Thanks!!

Many cards offer excellent introductory APR periods on purchases as well as rewards offers! The Discover it® Cash Back as well as the Chase Freedom Unlimited® both offer extra long introductory periods as well as excellent rewards programs!

Hi there, I am simply interested in finding a credit card that will give me the best rewards. I don’t typically use a credit card but am planning to start using it for my monthly spending and just want to reap the benefits of spending the money I would be spending regardless (around $1000/month). Ideally the rewards would come in the form of cash rewards although if there is a better travel reward option I might consider it as well. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back!

There are many rewards options, take a look at the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express and the Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card both of which offer good cash back rewards!

Any cards better than others for using for services such as medical services, surgeries, etc, with no annual fees, 0 interest to start, and low interest after the intro period?

Many credit cards offer no APR for introductory periods as well as no annual fees. Two cards to look at would be the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever and the Chase Freedom Unlimited® as the both offer extra long introduction periods for APR.

The Quicksilver, Double Cash, Cash Wise, and Freedom Unlimited all serve the same purpose: spending for general purchases where you don't get higher rewards on a more specific card. I have a few 5% cash back cards, but they all only offer 5% on specific categories. I use my Freedom Unlimited for purchases that don't fall into these or similar rewards categories because I can redeem my rewards with the Freedom Unlimited as Ultimate Reward points through my Sapphire Preferred. To me, the 1.5 UR points are worth more than the 2% cash back of the Citi Double Cash.

Any cards good for rewards when spent on hotel rooms? We drive and do a lot of hotel stays looking for a little extra rewards for that category.

I have heard it's not good to close a credit card. Yes or no?

While it is true that closing a credit card may have a negative impact on your credit score, there are a number of factors to consider and the impact will vary depending on your situation. It's a good idea to keep your oldest credit card open even if you no longer use it because the age of your accounts is one factor that goes into your credit score. Also, closing a credit card with a large credit line is more likely to cause your credit score to drop because it may increase your overall credit utilization rate. On the flip side, closing a fairly new credit card with a small credit line may not have any long term impact on your credit score if you have older credit cards open with large lines of credit.

Have a basic question - most of these cards have minimum spending limits to get the sign up bonus. Does paying rent qualify as a purchase or does it have to be actual purchases ?

If you're landlord allows you to pay your rent with a credit card, then it will most likely count as a "purchase" on your statement!

Considering the United Mileage Plus Explorer card or the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Concerned about being tied to United (we live near Chicago so frequently, but not exclusively fly United). Is the flexibility of the Sapphire card outweigh the specifics for United (free bags etc..)?

By: CompareCards | Aug 3, 2017

The United℠ Explorer Card is a great card for loyal United customers who want great rewards on flights. However, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card lets you earn points that can be used on a many prominent airlines and hotels. Not only are the points for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card much more flexible, but right now the signup bonus is also larger - the United℠ Explorer Card has a 40,000 point bonus, while the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has a 50,000 point bonus. In this case, we would go with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

By: Kristin Gerhart | Jan 8, 2018

I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card along with several of my friends and we all love it. If you travel - it's well worth it. We have booked several rewards trips with the points, plus we don't need to purchase car rental insurance (the card protects you), get into airport lounges and more. The travel points for free flights is well worth it alone. Best of luck!

Best Credit Card Rewards

Rewards credit cards offer the cardholder the chance to earn special incentives or to accumulate points that can later be redeemed for rewards, perks, products, or services. You can find the best reward credit card programs for virtually any category that you can think of these days, including travel rewards, airline frequent flier or mileage awards, hotel rewards, rental car rewards, rewards for buying gas or groceries, and cash back rewards.

Credit card rewards and rebates typically range from 1% to 5%, and many credit cards with rewards give you bigger or higher rewards for shopping or making purchases in specific categories like travel, dining, or gasoline. Or you get more points – including double or bonus points – in those kinds of categories. As with most rewards credit card programs, those connected to your credit card may have terms and conditions that you need to be aware of before picking the best rewards credit card for you.

Some credit card companies can place caps on how many points you can earn within a particular timeframe. Others limit how long you can accumulate points before you cash them in for rewards – or they might nullify points if your card remains inactive for a long time. So check the expiration dates and any limits like blackout dates for redeeming travel awards. If you get a great promotional reward bonus that too will likely expire within a set period of time – so be sure you take advantage of it while it lasts and are prepared in the event that something like your reward percentage or credit card interest rate changes with little notice.

To help you find the rewards credit card that’s best for you and your particular spending habits and lifestyle, Compare Cards has cataloged by reward redemption type. You’ll also find expert current reviews of the best – and worst – rewards credit cards, plus helpful side-by-side comparison tools that identify exactly what the pros and cons of each specific card are.
